Happy December, Unity Users! ⛄ This week’s digest includes two new exciting updates to Unity and a reminder about URI AI Lab’s last Fall workshop.
📦 Introducing the RStor Research Storage System
We’re excited to announce the launch of RStor, a mid-performance, low-cost storage system designed for research data that doesn’t require specialized security controls. It is currently available to UMass Amherst Groups only.
RStor is:
- Mounted on the Unity batch cluster via NFS
- Mountable on UMass Amherst desktops via SMB
- Managed through the new Unity HPC Platform Allocation Portal, where PIs and groups can request and oversee their storage shares
RStor is hosted at MGHPCC, meaning it will undergo:
- A yearly downtime for a 1-3 days every spring, usually late May or early June
- A monthly maintenance period on the first Tuesday of every month 6-9AM

✨ New! The ood-shared partition is now live
The ood-shared partition is now available for interactive jobs with low utilization. It’s great for code editing, short tests, and other lightweight workloads. This partition includes 21 nodes with 712 cores, with 4x sharing enabled (up to four jobs could share the same core!), providing flexibility and expanded access for quick tasks.
